30/30 Day One Update
June 8th, 2010 by Tony Hansen.Just taking a quick break to grab a different boat, something to eat and charge batteries. We are at -- unofficially -- 18 species. Not bad given the weather conditions. We're in the midst of a cold front and it's been raining off and on since about 4 p.m. It's supposed to rain much of tonight and that could hinder or after-dark efforts. We plan to bowfish for rough species which, obviously, is pretty sight-dependent and windy, rainy conditions aren't going to help.
But we're going to give it our best shot -- there's too much at stake. The purpose of this whole thing is to make a difference in regards to Asian carp and invasive species. Rain, cold -- doesn't matter. We're in this for the long haul. If you like what we're doing, please consider making a pledge and signing on to our letter to Pres. Obama urging him to do the right thing concerning Asian carp.
We've had an awesome day of fishing landing everything from smallmouth to lake trout to crappies. And we've never travelled more than 10 miles between water bodies. Where can you do that outside of Michigan. Not many places. Let's stand up for our angling heritage and our fisheries.
We'll report back in the morning -- hopefully with a few more species knocked off the list.
