It’s Official: March 20 is Michigan Meat Eaters Day
March 17th, 2010 by Tony Hansen. And so it is declared. This morning, Michigan United Conservation Clubs has decreed that March 20 is Michigan Meat Eaters Day.
This comes in response to Gov. Granholm's proclamation of March 20 being Michigan Meatout Day. Now we don't have anything against those that choose not to eat -- so long as they don't try to impose their will on us and infringe upon our rights to hunt, fish, trap and -- yes -- drop a slab of muscle on the grill.
However, we have big problems with our government partnering with a known animal rights group like FARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement) or the Humane Society of the United States. That's the problem here. The Meatout Day is an effort by the animal rights groups to wiggle their way into our state, snuggle up to our leaders and then find a way to impose their views on all of us. Last time we checked, this was a free state and nation. Hunting, fishing, trapping, farming -- all are good, beautiful things.
We should not have our political leaders siding with groups that are designed only to strip the rights of others. Our heritage should be celebrated. Thus it is decided:
March 20. Eat Meat.
Love it. Live it. Refuse to let anyone tell us that we're wrong. Because we're not. Period.

I’m on board! My family has 6 hunters in it, and one that will probably hunt when she is old enough (she is only a year old right now). We all, even the baby, eat meat and enjoy being free to do just that. I applaud this proclamation and the hope it gives to those of us meat eaters that just will not give up a wonderful source of protein and iron, just because some vegetarian tries to push her agenda on us!

The governor was unthinking and deserves pushback since FARM is not our friend, but the meat eaters proclamation is an embarrassment. Critics could shred it to pieces, so I hope it stays under the radar.
I do think it’s interesting that we might take sides with the meat industry on occasion, since if it were not for the animal rights folks as a common enemy, that might not be in our best interests, and I’m a bit uncomfortable about it.

I am a meat eater, the only veggie I eat is Corn on the Cob in the Summer, although I guess corn is a starch. Like Uncle Ted Nugent says ” I love vegetarians, They’re delicious ( deer, rabbit, squirrel, etc )

We must consider the source of this ridiculus proclamation, though it did come from the mouth of a “governor” remember after 160 years of a State of Michigan institution like the State Fair,it took Jennifer Granholm to close it.So please, consider the source, she just can,t help it. L Zienert
