Long Week

Every have one of those weeks that seems to fly by yet drags on all at the same time? The kind of week where you cringe every time the phone rings or a new e-mail pops in your inbox? Yeah, those kinds of weeks.

Well, I have had it. It's been one long week and I'm about to shut down my laptop, grab whatever outdoors magazine is near me and think about the woods for a bit. In few hours, I'll be getting up and I'm going fishing. I don't care where. I don't care when. I just know I'm going. I'm going to bore holes as fast as I can and catch as many fish as legally allowed.

I'll be hauling all the camera equipment along in hopes of getting a story that's been two weeks in the making. See, about two weeks ago the fish were feeding like they had never eaten before. One after the other, the fish came through the ice. Well, then it all changed. It warmed up. It rained. Then the temps fell through the basement and the fish simply shut down. Kind of hard to make a good show when the fish just don't cooperate. Well, tomorrow, the tape will roll and I'll post a new OD episode this weekend. It may be nothing more than me just staring down a hole in the ice. But sometimes those things happen. I think maybe that's the cool thing about the new MichiganOutofDoors.com site and the OD production. It's the type of outdoors production I've wanted to see for a long, long time. No fake "I just love seeing myself on TV" hunters or anglers. No guys following around a guide or charter captain on every outing because they're not able to catch fish or fill tags on their own merits. It's not that those shows aren't entertaining (okay, many of them aren't) it's just that I have absolutely nothing in common with them. I have a feeling most of you feel the same.

We want real hunting and fishing. We want real, diehard Michigan. We want the OD.

Maybe I'll see some of you on the lake tomorrow. I'll be the gun double-timing it to my favorite spot and savoring every moment that the phone doesn't ring.
