“Meat Out Day”—We Don’t Think So
March 16th, 2010 by Tony Hansen.MUCC's Dave Nyberg discovered a proclamation today, signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, declaring March 20 as the "Michigan Meatout Day" -- a day, according the text in the proclamation, for Michigan residents to avoid eating any meat.
Here's some text from the proclamation:
" In observance of this day, I encourage the residents of this state to choose not to eat meat. Eating a healthy diet can be fun. Explore the different recipes that can be created by using fresh ingredients and by having a sense of adventure."
What's worse is this was in support of FARM - Farm Animal Reform Movement. FARM is an anti-meat, anti-dairy, anti-hunting organization.
Obviously, we have a big, big issue with this. So we're are officially proclaiming Saturday, March 20 as Michigan Meat Eaters Day. We plan to celebrate with steaks, burgers and whatever meat we choose to sizzle on a grill.
To commemorate the event, we will be creating a special Michigan Meat Eater Facebook page and would encourage anyone who thinks the Meatout Day is a slap in the face to all of the hunters, anglers, farmers, dairy producers and good, old carnivores in this state to become a fan. And while you're at it shoot a photo of yourself enjoying a hunk of meat and post it.
We'll be sure to share the results with the folks in Lansing. Stay tuned for more updates and information on this.
