Summer 2022 Michigan Out-of-Doors: Sucker fishing, blueberry picking, habitat work and sharp-tailed grouse round out this season’s content

It’s hard to believe that we are talking about the summer 2022 Michigan Out-of-Doors Magazine with 30-degree nights still gracing us with their presence — but here we are.

The Michigan Out-of-Doors Summer 2022 edition will be heading to the printer midweek next week, and this issue has got me excited.  Michigan’s-own Great Lakes Firearms and Ammunition partnered with us for the summer cover as we work to dispel myths regarding the modern rifle, its production and use. This ongoing series will help readers better understand what use a modern rifle might have for you or help to answer any questions you might have regarding how they are made and what their benefits for hunting and shooting are. My hope is to eventually take a deer with a Michigan-built .350 Legend from Great Lakes Firearms and bring the column full circle

If you join Michigan United Conservation Clubs by next Wednesday, May 4, you will get this issue delivered to your mailbox!

Contributor Blake Sherburne takes us to the banks of the Manistee River with his family and friends partaking in one of spring’s first rituals — sucker fishing. Sherburne details why the activity is great for the family and how you can tailor the fun to suit your needs. This type of fishing is especially good for kids.

MUCC Executive Director Amy Trotter is this season’s Rising Star of Conservation for many reasons. We hope the article will help give readers a better sense of the work Trotter and MUCC does, and just how important stakeholders like MUCC are in the natural resources policy-setting process.

The legend Fred Bear has his own section — need I say more?

Fishing season are just around the corner and morel mushrooms are starting to pop here in Michigan. Enjoy whatever you are doing to get yourself outside and take someone with you.

We hope to see you afield or on the water this summer.
